Dining
For House System residents, participating in the residential dining program is one of the cornerstones of community development. Each day, students gather at House tables to relax, sate their palates, and discuss everything from the foundations of the universe to the day's events, while building House identity. In the dining commons, C-Shop and Hutchinson Commons food court, Chicago's Campus Dining Services provides an array of cuisines to suit many tastes and appetites.
The Residential Dining Program
The House System's residential dining program provides healthy, well-prepared meals in community-based dining halls via meal plans structured flexibly to help students maintain their active schedules. Each meal plan has two or three components: a number of meals that must be eaten in Burton-Judson or Pierce and/or an allocation of Dining Points that may only be used at Bartlett Dining Commons, and an allocation of Flex Dollars that may be spent either for additional dining hall meals or at select campus eateries. The plans have been developed to provide a flexible, extensive, and high-quality program at the best value possible.
Dining hall menus change daily to offer a variety of entrees, including vegan and vegetarian options. Twenty meals are served per week in the dining halls: breakfast*, lunch, and dinner from Sunday through Friday; and breakfast* and brunch on Saturday. Saturday dinner is not offered; many Houses use this opportunity to plan House dinners and off-campus cultural events.
* Breakfast is not served in Burton-Judson and Pierce Dining Commons on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Breakfast is served in Bartlett Dining Commons daily.
House Tables
Each House has a designated "House Table" in one of three dining halls. During the first two weeks of Autumn Quarter, students are required to eat in the dining hall in which their House Table is located. Find your House table.
Campus Dining Services
Campus Dining Services provides the residential dining program with food service and special programming. In Pierce and Burton-Judson dining halls, Campus Dining Services serves all-you-care-to-eat meals; à la carte choices are available at Bartlett Dining Commons, the C-Shop and Hutchinson Commons. While you could eat the same thing every day, Campus Dining Services will engage your taste buds with programs like demonstration cooking, daily vegan and vegetarian entrees, unique global cuisine serveries in each dining hall, Shake Day and Pancake Week, culinary programs with the executive chef, and theme nights like Cinco de Mayo and Elvis Night.
